Hiyama sparks rally as Tigers sweep BayStars Sep. 2 (Nishinomiya)-- Pinch-hitter Shinjiro Hiyama came through in the clutch with a
bases-loaded two-run single with two outs in the sixth inning as the
Hanshin Tigers rallied to sweep the Yokohama BayStars in three games
in a 6-3 win on Thursday night.
The Tigers, who had been explosive scoring double digits in the
previous three games for a total of 35 runs, were more subdued but
got the job done to win their fifth in a row and improve their CL
lead to two games against the idle second-place Yomiuri Giants.
Tomoaki Kanemoto had a run-scoring single to help widen the lead
in a three-run seventh before a Shuichi Murata RBI double narrowed
the gap in the eighth inning at Koshien Staadium.
Randy Messenger (4-4) allowed two runs -- one earned -- and five
hits in six innings and Kyuji Fujikawa was perfect in the ninth for
his 22nd save. Shigeru Kaga (3-8) took the loss. (Kyodo)
